ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters is a co-educational, independent, private school offering classes through 1st to 12th Grade levels. We also offer select college courses for credit transferable to the top universities in the New York State.

The Institute is geared towards an integrated education that provides a balanced program of intellectual, moral, social, and physical development. We select only the students who will benefit most from our academic and extracurricular opportunities and can thrive under the school's challenging and rigorous curriculum. We believe that education is highly personalized and that no student’s experience is exactly like another’s.

We work to maintain an atmosphere of intimacy and community involvement. We keep our class sizes small--no more than ten students to an instructor--so as to provide consistent and individualized attention to every learner.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The Xavier Institute employs two full-time and two part-time teachers to instruct one class of students in all the subjects required for each student's grade level. Our elementary class sizes range from 10-20 students each year.

First to fourth grade school days run from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Fifth to eighth grade school days are from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

HIGH SCHOOL

The Xavier Institute's high school academic program is organized according to a tracking system – Standard and Honors. Placement is typically determined by past performance, teacher recommendations, and standardized test scores. Every effort is made to place students in appropriately challenging classes, and student progress is routinely monitored and evaluated for accurate placement within the tracking system.

COLLEGE

03

Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters offers a one-of-a-kind Post-Secondary Independent Learner's Program (PILP) for high school graduates who wish to extend their period of residency at the Institute while earning general education (GE) course credits. This special program allows students who wish to eventually obtain a bachelor's degree at a four-year college to fulfill the necessary "core" requirements to attend the college of their choice. All lesson plans are structured so as to satisfy core curriculum requirements at New York state's public and private universities.

The Institute does not award associate's degrees or certifications. However, we work with our students in applying their GE credits towards a transfer into the four-year college of their choice. Xavier graduates hold a very high acceptance/transfer rate into some of the country's most prestigious institutions, such as Columbia University and New York University.

Our college courses are most often taught on a unique one-on-one teaching arrangement. Students are assigned to a member of our staff of full-time instructors and part-time lecturers whose credentials include years of practice in their respective fields of expertise.

Teachers guide their students through the required course material using lecture series, reading assignments, and standard examinations.
