DEMERIT SYSTEM
The demerit system is designed to document and track repeated disciplinary infractions. Accumulation of demerits by students who consistently disrupt the learning environment will eventually result in administrative discipline.
All faculty and staff members may issue demerit slips to record infractions corresponding to a menu of offenses.
MAJOR & MINOR OFFENSES
Minor Offenses
1 Demerit:
* PDA
* CD player / Headphones / iPod in class
* Dress code violation
* Disorderly conduct / Horseplay in common areas
* Unprepared for class
* Malicious remarks
* Misrepresenting facts
2 Demerits:
* In unauthorized area / out of class without permission
* Vulgar literature / Drawings / Items
* Forgery
* Profanity / Vulgarity / Obscene gestures
* Cell phone use in class
* Arguing / Rudeness
* Refusing to work / sleeping in class
* Class disruption
* Tardy to class
3 Demerits:
* Harassment / Intimidation of a student
* Disrespect, defiance, or insubordination toward adults
* Indecent exposure, indecent act, or sexual harassment
Major Offenses
5 Demerits:
* Inciting or joining into a fight
* Physical aggression / Physical hazing / bullying
* Vandalism / purposeful destruction of school property
* Obstructing or interfering with adults trying to reach a crisis situation
* Stealing or being in possession of another's property
* Setting a false alarm or communicating a threat or false report for purpose of frightening, disturbing, or causing the evacuation or closure of school
10 Demerits:
* Threatening / assaulting a fellow student or staff member
* Possessing, using, or being under the influence of drugs/chemicals or substances represented to be such
* Selling or distributing drugs/chemicals or substances represented to be such
* Presenting a threat to the lives of others or engaging in activities that mimic terrorism
DISCIPLINARY MEASURES
Accumulated demerits will result in administrative discipline according to the following menu:

1 demerit: Letters will be sent home by the office and the student's mentor will be notified

3 demerits: 1 day after-school detention

5 demerits: 1 week after-school detention
-
8 demerits: 1 weekend in-school grounding
-
10 demerits: 1 week in-school grounding and suspension
-
20 demerits: 2 weeks in-school grounding and suspension
-
30 demerits: 3 weeks in-school grounding and suspension
-
40 demerits: 1 month in-school grounding and suspension
-
50 demerits: suspension until further notice; possible expulsion as determined by School Administration
DETENTION involves at least three hours of classroom work or service to be assigned by the Deputy Headmaster of Discipline and completed in his office. He may also opt to assign another faculty member to give the assignment, so long as it takes the appropriate amount of time to complete.
GROUNDING is defined as the confinement of the student indoors of the Xavier mansion. He/she would not be permitted to go outdoors or participate in any social or extra-curricular activities and may be asked to complete a class assignment or chore.
SUSPENSION prevents the student from attending any of his/her classes for the issued period of time. The student will be responsible for making up the lessons or tests he/her missed during the absences.
