ADMISSIONS PROCESS

"Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another."

G.K. Chesterton

OVERVIEW

The Xavier Institute has rolling admissions and accepts applications all throughout the school year. Our unique application process lends itself to a selective screening process. Acceptance decisions are based on several factors, including but not limited to personal character, academic achievements, special talents, and adherence to the school philosophy.

The Institute welcomes an average of 20 new students each year on different grade levels. About 40% of these are invited to the school through referrals by colleagues and recommendations by our recruiters.

The Institute values racial and socioeconomic diversity. We offer scholarships to all deserving students based on need. Our generous alumni and benefactors present majority of our students with grants that cover nearly the entire cost of their tuition, including room and board, until their graduation.

If you are a prospective student or a parent interested in enrolling your child, please fill out an online application form, and a staff member will be in touch soon. You may also call our office directly at (914) 555-6100 to schedule an initial appointment.

APPLICATION SUBMISSION

STEP ONE:
Fill out an online application or contact the admissions office at (914) 555-6600 to schedule an initial interview for the prospective student. Initial interviews are always conducted off-campus, preferably at the applicant's home.

STEP TWO:
Submit an application portfolio. This includes, but is not limited to, the following documents:
* Student's birth certificate
* Application form for financial aid
* Official transcripts from current school (must be mailed directly to our office)
* At least two (2) recommendation letters from teachers, counselors, mentors, or other community members
* A personal statement, discussing a specific ethical dilemma the student has faced and how he/she handled or resolved it

The application portfolio must be received by the admissions office at least one week prior to the initial interview.
It may be sent via e-mail to admissions@xavierinstitute.edu or by regular mail at P.O. Box 6127, North Salem, NY 10560-2804.

* Recommendation letters and personal statements are required for those applying for entry into 6th grade level and above only.

APPLICATION REVIEW

STEP THREE:
Attend the initial, informal interview. Depending on availability, this may be conducted by Admissions Officer Dr. Jean Grey or a designated faculty member. Minors aged 17 and below must have a parent or guardian present at the interview.

Topics to be discussed during the informal interview will include the applicant's family background and academic history, educational goals and other aspirations.

STEP FOUR:
After the applicant's documents have been reviewed, he/she may be called in for a one-on-one formal interview with Headmaster Charles Xavier. This will be held at the School for Gifted Youngsters in Westchester, New York and will also serve as a campus visit. The applicant will be given a tour of the Xavier estate and a chance to meet some of our current students.

Travel expenses and overnight accommodations for the applicant and one companion will be arranged and fully paid for by the Institute.

STEP FIVE:
Applicants will be informed of their acceptance via mail within two weeks after their formal interview. The acceptance letter will include details about the scholarship plan being offered to the prospective student, which can still be negotiated up until their registration date.
