THE XAVIER WORTHIES
The Xavier mascots are the "Nine Worthies", nine historical, semi-legendary figures who were established in the Middle Ages as a set of heroes personifying the ideals of chivalry. The nine are: Hector, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Joshua, David, Judas Maccabeus, King Arthur, Charlemagne, and Godfrey of Boullion.
The Worthies are rendered in the logo of an armored medieval knight, which is used by the Institute's athletic teams and organizations when they represent Xavier's in competitions against other schools.
INTER-HOUSE INTRAMURALS
The Intramurals are fun, recreational, and social on-campus activities for Xavier students and staff. During the months of April and May, the Four Houses compete against each other in various sports games, quiz shows, and other team events. The victors of every event are awarded a specific number of points. At the end of the Intramurals period, points are tallied and the highest scoring House wins a trophy called the Grail Trophy.
One of the highlights of the Intramural season is the Inter-House Rugby Tournament, the school's most favorite, signature sporting event open to both varsity and non-varsity athletes.
TRADITIONS
COMMUNITY SERVICE
One important aspect of the school's educational philosophy is instilling a sense of civic responsibility and community spirit in its students. Xavier's has formed partnerships with various local organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts of America, and Meals on Wheels to provide volunteer opportunities for students and staff.
HOMECOMING WEEK
Xavier's welcomes back its alumni and former staff each year during Homecoming, held every first week of October. The celebration runs through a Spirit Week packed with various activities, such as Dress Up Days, House Decorating Contests, and a Talent Show. The week culminates in a big alumni demo rugby game and a Homecoming Banquet.
In lieu of a Homecoming Court, the students vote for nine Xavier residents (three faculty members, three non-faculty alumni, and three current seniors/juniors) to hold the title of "Nine Worthies" for the school year.
