GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

 

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DIPLOMA

a) MINIMUM CUMULATIVE GPA. Students must successfully complete the fixed curriculum and finish their Eighth Grade academic year with a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average.

b ) ATTENDANCE. Students are required to have at least a 90 percent attendance record.

C) MENTOR'S ASSESSMENT. At the end of the school year, each student's assigned mentor will conduct a final interview and life skills examination. The student must achieve a passing grade in the assessment to qualify for graduation.


HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

a) CREDIT FULFILLMENT. All high school students are required to earn at least 44 credit units to graduate. A total of 40 units must be earned in academic subjects including the arts; 4 units are earned for a required 7 semesters of gym plus 1 semester of health education.

Health Education ........ 0.5 (required class)
Ethics .......................... 0 (required class)


b ) REGENTS EXAMS. As required by the New York State Education Department, students must pass five Regents exams: English, math, global history, U.S. history, and science, with a score of 65 percent or more.

c) ATTENDANCE. Students are required to have at least a 90 percent attendance record.

d) COMMUNITY SERVICE. Students are required to complete community service. One hundred hours of community service (25 hours per year) and a final report are required for graduation.

e) MENTOR'S ASSESSMENT. At the end of the school year, each student's assigned mentor will conduct a final interview and life skills examination. The student must achieve a passing grade in the assessment to qualify for graduation.

A number of advanced placement courses are also offered to students who fulfill the prerequisites. When appropriate, students may also graduate early and enroll in the college courses offered through the Institute's Independent Learner's Program.
